Standard Prospect Research
With this type of research, I compile a donor profile report on individuals given to me by your organization. I provide as much data as possible to help determine if the person is a potential donor worth pursing. This may include data on real estate, career, stocks, campaign giving, philanthropic giving, and membership on boards.
Corporation Research
Many organizations receive funding through corporate or foundation sponsorships or grants. I can research corporations as I would individuals and compile a report with information such as company profile, sales, contact info, philanthropic giving, and list of company executives. This is also a useful way of discovering new individual donor prospects.
Granting Organization Research
This is researching and compiling a list of potential foundations or organizations to apply for funding in the form of writing a grant. This list will consist of private foundations found through foundation databases and resources as well as foundations found through researching IRS databases and forms. A list will be compiled detailing granting organizations or foundations, all pertinent details on application procedures, and contact information for the granting organization or foundation.
Prospect Identification
In identifying donor prospects, three main factors are considered:
1. The individual’s financial capacity
2. The individual’s interest in the organization (or similar organizations)
3. History of the individual giving to a similar organization or cause
Internal Donor Prospect Identification
Although you may already have a list of current donor prospects, this list could be easily expanded internally. Your organization’s staff, board, supporters, volunteers and others may know people that would be potential donors. I can help you survey all of these individuals and compile a new list of donor prospects. The individuals on this list will then be researched to discover new donor prospects your organization should focus on.
External Donor Prospect Identification
A list will be compiled of new donor prospects. This list will consist of individuals not on any existing list, but are compiled because of a range of factors. These factors may include nearby residency, workplace, interest in type of organization, or even piggybacking off someone from the first list (ie. sits on the same board). These names will then be individually researched and a donor report prepared for each.
